General Questions and Answer

Is tooth loss an expected condition in pregnancy?

Gingival bleeding during pregnancy is not secondary to calcium recession in tooth. The reason of bleeding is gingival inflammations or worsening of current gingival inflammation secondary to hormonal changes during pregnancy in case of insufficient oral care. Tooth loss in pregnancy can be prevented with good oral hygiene and dental visits.

Second trimester, or Month 4, 5 and 6 of pregnancy, is the best period for dental interventions during pregnancy. If an aching tooth should be extracted or urgent treatments, such as canal root treatment, are required, they should not be postponed until post-partum period.
